Val d’Isère, France

This snow-sure gem in the French Alps is a brilliant pick for all ages, boasting a lovely nursery slope near the centre of town, plenty of blue pistes for intermediates and extreme slopes for seasoned pros. Combined with its lift-linked neighbour, Tignes, there’s absolutely no shortage of adventures to be had.

To complete the picture, the resort is home to some of the best ski schools around, not to mention an excellent selection of restaurants, bars and beautiful timber chalets.

Alpe d’Huez, France

Just above Alpe d’Huez, there’s a vast bowl of easy-to-access green pistes, which makes the resort a fantastic choice for beginners and families embarking on their first ski trip. Of course, there are thrilling intermediate and advanced pistes across the extensive ski area, including one of the longest runs in the world: the Sarenne.

The town is also famous for sunny bluebird weather, lively bars, plenty of non-skiing activities and a selection of accommodation options with in-house childcare.

La Plagne, France

Like the above, La Plagne offers an excellent selection of chalets with professional in-house childcare, plus the ski in/ski out options here are fantastic. On the mountain, visitors will find good nursery slopes and a network of cruisy intermediate pistes – it’s a top choice for skiers looking to build confidence.

Thrill-seeking experts, meanwhile, will find some great off-piste potential in La Plagne and a number of terrain parks. Plus, you can always hop the cable car over to Les Arcs for more challenging pistes.

Obergurgl, Austria

This charming town boasts an excellent ski area for beginners and intermediates, as well as a slick lift system that keeps the queues moving nicely. If you’re after quiet slopes for the kids and great ski schools, this is a top choice.

The village itself is peaceful and family-friendly, with very little traffic and lovely accommodation options with in-house childcare.

Cervinia, Italy

Nestled beneath the magnificent Matterhorn, this family-friendly ski town offers inspiring mountain scenery and long, gentle pistes that are absolutely ideal for beginners and intermediates. Of course, the more daring skiers in your group can make the trip over to linked Zermatt for steeper descents.

The resort benefits from plenty of sun throughout the season, yet remains one of the most snow-sure European destinations thanks to its lofty slopes.
