Ski Chalets in St Martin de Belleville, France
St Martin de BellevilleSt Martin de Belleville is one of the most underrated of the Three Valleys villages, and despite its position in one of Europe’s most popular ski areas it remains relatively untouched. The resort itself is frequently called one of the hidden gems of the Alps, and it has a pretty Savoyarde charm.
The resort is less popular among the Brits than the main resorts of Meribel, Val Thorens and Courchevel, and its slopes are quieter, with fewer lengthy queues during peak weeks. Whilst the snow conditions can be poor later in the season due to the comparatively lower altitude of 1450m, many of the pistes are covered with snow cannons, and are therefore fairly snow sure.
The village retains a traditional feel, with an old town centred on the church blending well with the newer chalets. The resort has a range of fantastic restaurants selling great food in cosy establishments, while the Piano Bar tends to be the most popular place for a few drinks in the evenings; the resort is not as wild as the others in the Three Valleys network and the bars have a relaxed atmosphere.
St Martin de Belleville offers activities to guests including snow shoeing through unspoilt nature with ESF, husky sledding, and cross country skiing. Throughout the season there are a range of local events that take place, from torch lit descents to Christmas fun to fireworks to concerts.
For those looking for something to do when the weather’s bad, there is the museum of Saint Martin and the Burdin Mill giving you a glimpse of over 150 years of local history. Two different spas provide plenty of pampering if you can’t face the hill.
