Apres

Kaprun is a small Austrian village but still has plenty of choice for a well deserved drink after a long day on the slopes. One of the most popular choices is the Baumbar which has it all; great après ski, good food and the top choice for late night/early morning dancing.

Other great options are Partykeller which is more about the DJs. For something relaxed or a special romantic drink then the only place to head to is Volvo’s ice camp, this is remade every year and is stunning

For even more choice Zell am See has a great range of bars.

Eating out

Kaprun has a huge range of restaurants from Austrian, Mediterranean, Asian or many other international dishes. Kaprun itself has over 30 different restaurants, although if you fancy a trip to the Zell am see then there is even more.

Simple yummy Mexican or pizza can be picked up from Cantina Bar Zucchini, this is also a cosy après ski bar.

The Dorfstadl has a great rustic restaurant in a traditional Salzburg style. They are well known for their good range of Pinzgauer cooking serving up fish, venison and lamb.

A great pizzeria is the Bella Casa serving up a traditionalchoice of Italian dishes

Activities

There is a huge amount to keep you busy off the pistes so don’t worry if you are not going to be on the slopes every day. Nordic walking is hugely popular in this region and there are a number of trails through woodlands and mountain landscapes which are incredible.

If you have children with you then the dog sleds are a must, but if you want something a bit more exhilarating then snowmobiles are huge amounts of fun! http://www.ski-kaprun.com/en/ski-dome.html.

The brand new swimming complex can be found in Zell am See which is very close by and includes an active pool with jet stream current, relax pool with grotto, high pool with waterfalls, lots of different areas for peace and quiet, 3 waterslides, baby pool and outdoor 25m pool and plenty of sun loungers to make the most of the incredible views through the huge floor to ceiling windows. http://www.tauernspakaprun.com/en/spa-wasserwelt.

The toboggan run suits both young and old and best done in the moonlight! The numerous routes go from Kitzsteinhorn and Schmittenhohe (the night route goes from Kohlergrabe to Schmittental.) http://www.zellamsee-kaprun.com/en/activities/alternative-winter-activities.

Skating on the frozen Zeller lake is a rare opportunity to skate on the huge area so that you really feel you make the most of your time in the Austrian Alps, whether you are trying ice hockey or just a relaxing skate.
