Austria Ski Accommodation in Leogang, Austria

Leogang is in the paralell valley to Saalbach and Hinterglemm and linked into the same ski circus area by a high speed 6 seater chairlift. Even so, there is plenty of great skiing just staying in Leogang.

Lying in a natural basin, Leogang has its own micro-climate which is great at making and keeping snow.

Nursery slopes are right in the village centres and both ski schools enjoy an excellent reputation.. There is limited choice of easy blue runs.

An intermediate skier’s dream! Extensive territory for those preferring blue and red runs is directly accessible from both village centres including Bernkogel, Kohlmais & Reiterkogel regions.

Experts join the circuit via the Schattberg cablecar offering a good selection of bump runs and off piste touring. Steep black runs, such as the challenging ‘Nordabfahrt’ and the testing World Cup runs, leading directly back to Hinterglemm, can also be found on the Zwölferkogel.

One of the best Austrian resorts to choose for budding riders with superb tuition, two well-maintained half pipes and long cruisy runs from easy blues to more challenging reds.

Getting around

Throughout the “Ski Circus” area there are a total of 42 ski huts, and most people gather at the Alm Bar at the end of the day or the Riederalm. The majority of the town based après ski is in Hinterglemm, which has won awards for its après/nightlife, and Saalbach. These resorts are just over the mountain from Leogang, though Leogang itself also has its own good selection of bars.

The Outback Bar has a great relaxed atmosphere with special event throughout the season. The bar is in the centre of town with happy hour running from 5pm-7pm, probably the most popular with the younger crowd.

The best outdoor atmosphere has to be the Alte Schmiede, just off the slopes and with a huge terrace. Every Tuesday night is “Asitzbahn Music Night”, featuring live bands and a fire and ice show! They also put on a tobogganing night every Tuesday and Friday night.

Eating out

Leogang is the most beautiful of the three villages in the Ski Circus ski area. Although small, it has a few good restaurants to try.

One of the most impressive buildings is the Alte Schmiede, you can enjoy traditional Austrian cuisine surrounded by 19th century antiques.

Much like many other Austrian ski resorts, Leogang offers wonderful winter hiking routes, cross country and snowshoeing trails. There are extensive route maps of the 80km of cross country trails as well as ski schools that will guide you through the most beautiful countryside.

Another great way to see the countryside (if maybe a little easier on the legs) is a sleigh ride. Rides can be easily organised to combine a restaurant stop, or you can do just a quick circuit.

You might not normally think to try something like ski jumping, but Leogang gives skiers from aged 14 upwards to give it a go! A day course costs €95 and it could be perfect on a snowy day.

Tobogganing is a must during your stay; Leogang’s tobogganing route opens daily from 1pm from Stocklalm to Forthofalm. Night tobogganing runs on Tuesday and Friday nights from 6pm at the Asitz cable car to “Leo’s Kufengaudi”.

Children are well looked after in Leogang. The Children’s World or “Leo’s Kinderland” is right by the Asitz cable car, and consists of 4 magic carpets set over 1.4 hectares and lots of equipment and obstacles to make it as fun as possible.

Once off the slopes, many families head to the tobogganing runs which start from Stocklalm. Night tobogganing is also popular here.
Every February children can take part in the Children’s Carnival starting from 1pm and finishing at 4pm there will be games, juggling artists etc.

Children from 10 years old will love the Flying Fox which shots you down the side of the piste head first on a suspension cable down 1.6km of cable.
