Free Ski Fitness App

A new app developed by a team of physiotherapists aims to get skiers and boarders in top shape for the snow, reducing their risk of joint and muscle injury.

Most of us have experienced one of the following scenarios: you excitedly get on the mountain for first tracks of the season but struggle to get your snow-legs back, you find yourself absolutely exhausted before the day is out, or the next morning you have to literally roll out of bed because your muscles are that sore.

SKIRAD (ski ready & avoid damage) takes users through exercises to improve their fitness ahead of the ski season, pre-snow warm ups and post-snow cool downs to maintain peak condition during their holiday and practical advice to help avoid injury on the slopes.

The app has more than 200 exercises that can be performed almost anywhere. The conditioning routines focus on muscles specifically used while skiing – which can go neglected in normal day-to-day life – and each session only takes 20 minutes or less.

Creators Mike Conway, Bianca Matheson and Therese Leigh recently launched the app in partnership with world-renowned ski resort Whistler Blackcomb in Canada. SKIRAD is currently available for free download from the iTunes App Store and Google Play
