Cost of Ski Holidays... Dropping

Let’s face it, ski holidays aren’t exactly well-known for being cheap, but new research has revealed that the cost of a ski holiday is in fact falling. Prices for accommodation, ski hire, lessons and even food and drink have dramatically dropped this year compared to last season.

The latest annual report by the Post Office shows that the cost of a ski holiday across some of the European resorts most popular with Brits has decreased – in some places quite significantly.

According to the report - covered in the Telegraph this week - the popular French resort of Les Deux Alpes, for example, has seen a whopping 13.5% drop in prices compared to the 2014/2015 ski season. Other French resorts where prices are falling fast include Courchevel, where costs are down by 10.5%, along with Val d'Isere, which has seen a 9% decrease overall. Meanwhile, over in Austria, the lively resort of St. Anton has seen prices drop by 7.5%.

The report also found that popular North American resorts have seen a general fall in prices compared to last season, including a 13.8% drop in the insanely popular (and incredibly expensive) resort of Whistler.

While some of these percentages may seem insignificant to some, most of the drop in costs are in notoriously expensive resorts where most would be happy to see prices simply remain the same from season to season. For the general cost of a ski holiday across resorts like these to actually fall is an incredible bonus for the average Brit looking to get away to the slopes this season.

Of the 27 ski resorts included in the report, just seven saw an increase in prices. (Perhaps unsurprisingly, three of these were popular Swiss resorts.)

All in all though, the message is clear: The cost of ski holidays across Europe this year are down compared to last year. What better reason (as if you needed one) to hit the slopes this 2015/2016 winter season?
