Shaun White “Wasn’t Invited” to 2016 Winter X Games

According to the Denver Post, Winter X Games golden boy Shaun White will not be competing in the 2016 Games – the 23-time medal winner was reportedly not invited.

Snow sport lovers tuning in for the X Games SuperPipe event in Aspen this weekend are bound to be thinking, “Wait a sec, where’s Shaun White?”

Well, the Denver Post has quoted Game’s spokesperson Danny Chi as saying, “He wasn’t invited”.

Hold on, we are talking about the Shaun White, aren’t we? 2 Olympic gold medals, 15 x Games gold medals – the most in the event’s history – that guy, right?

Since making his debut in 2003 at 13-years-old, the athlete has become something of a poster boy for the Games, competing in Aspen every year except 2014, when he took leave to prepare for the Sochi Olympics.

White famously landed the first ever Double McTwist 1260 in competition at the 2010 Vancouver Olympics, winning gold in the Men’s Halfpipe Final. He scored a perfect 100 in the 2012 X Games halfpipe and won again in 2013.

While the snowboarder has suffered some defeats in recent years – 4th at last year’s X Games, 4th at the 2014 Winter Olympics – he has been in exceptional form this season, taking the top spot at the recent Dew Tour half-pipe contest in December.

According to NBC, White’s coach confirmed the 29-year-old American will compete at the X Games in Oslo this February. However - at this stage - he is not on the event’s official invite list, which can be viewed here
