Apres

Although the après ski scene in La Tania may be small compared to neighbouring resorts Courchevel and Meribel, there is a friendly and welcoming bar scene. Whether you’re keen to wet your whistle after a hard day on the slopes or head out for a few drinks after your evening meal, La Tania’s nightlife is has something for you. There are not many bars to choose from and the result of that is that they are usually lively!

Le Ski Lodge is perhaps the resort’s best bar, and is a great place to meet friends whatever time of day. The prices are reasonable and it’s a popular haunt for all kinds of people. Regular party nights are popular amongst seasonnaires and visitors alike, and the unpretentious nature of the bar makes it a popular choice. It’s happy hour here from 4-6pm every day and bands play live in the evenings to a packed bar. Live sports coverage on the large TV screens here completes the package. http://www.publeskilodge.com/

The Taiga Lounge is a comfortable and modern lounge bar with an extensive cocktail menu catering for a more discerning crowd. It does get lively in the evenings too though, with live bands playing regularly. http://www.easytaiga.com/

The Hotel Telemark is home to a bar open from 3pm every day, which is a popular venue for an après ski drink for people staying near the resort centre. The cocktail menu is diverse and the happy hour gets nicely busy. TVs play all the latest sports coverage and jazz evenings and acoustic guitar sets are popular.

Eating out

For a small resort, the range of restaurants to choose from in La Tania is surprisingly good. From the basics like pizza and chips all the way up to cordon bleu dining in Michelin-starred restaurants, La Tania has the full range!

La Taiga is a welcoming, upmarket restaurant in La Tania boasting a large restaurant and cocktail bar in sleek, warm surroundings. Diners can choose from options such as fresh, local salads, fish dishes, and venison, lamb and duck specialities, and of course those Savoyarde specialities such as fondue and raclette. http://www.easytaiga.com/

La Ferme is a Savoyarde restaurant with a lovely sun terrace, popular for skiers in the lunch time rush. It’s child friendly and welcoming, with a menu which won’t break the bank. Meat dishes are popular and the restaurant offers a wide range of delicious savoury and sweet crepes, perfect for hungry kids. http://www.laferme.latania.fr/en/

Le Farcon is perhaps the loveliest restaurant in the resort and was awarded a Michelin star in 2006 for the outstanding quality of the food here. Le Farcon sits at the foot of the slopes which makes it a great place to stop for lunch during the day, yet it is also within easy reach for evening diners. The chef’s focus is very much on using local produce and the restaurant’s pride in its produits du terroir is evident. Prices are high and with good reason, and if you’re looking for a really special meal out then do plan ahead and place a booking as Le Farcon fills up quickly. http://www.lefarcon.fr/

Activities

La Tania doesn’t have a great selection of non-ski activities compared to some of the other ski resorts but if you need a break from the slopes there are still a few things you can consider. You can also hop on the resort bus service to head over to Courchevel or Meribel for a more comprehensive selection of non-ski activities.

Dog Sledding
Dog sledding takes place in the forests between La Tania and Courchevel 1300, and it’s a wonderful way of spending time in nature. Whether you take the reins yourself or opt instead to sit at the back of the sled to take in the stunning views, you can’t fail to be wowed by this exciting and fun experience. A quick trip to the resort’s tourist office will give you lots of information on meeting points, times and costs.

Parapente
Parapenting (paragliding) is a popular activity and takes place from a number of different peaks in and around the La Tania valley. For people staying in La Tania itself, the nearest departure point is the Col de la Loze peak which sits between La Tania and Meribel, just above Meribel’s altiport area. With the thermals rising up from the ground, in good conditions, parapenters soon find themselves whizzing up high into the sky. The view of the resorts, peaks, pistes and valleys below is truly breathtaking.

Spas & Wellness
If you’d like to indulge in a little pampering, there are a number of companies that can come and visit you in your chalet for massages, skin care treatments, or reflexology to name a few. One such company is Pamper Off Piste and they can be found here: http://www.pamperoffpiste.com/

La Tania is very much a family-friendly resort and the pistes around the area are sheltered, but as it is quite a small resort, non-ski activities off the slopes are a little limited. If you have a car then you can drive through to neighbouring resorts Meribel or Courchevel where a whole host of further activities are available including the sports centres, swimming pools and climbing walls. In La Tania itself there’s not a great deal to do off the slopes but you could try the following activities:

Husky Sledding
Husky sledding is a fun activity for all the family and a great one to keep the kids entertained. The nearest husky sledding track sits in Le Plantin, and hamlet located between Meribel Village and La Tania. To get there you’ll usually need to get a taxi, although some companies do meet in Meribel Village as well so you could simply get the bus there. http://www.whitetracks.co.uk/Meribel_Dog_Sledding_Husky_Sledding_Sled_Dogs.htm

Snowshoeing
Snowshoeing is a great way to experience the thrill of the mountains away from the groomed pistes. Hiking through the snow with not a sound in the air, you feel far away from the hustle and bustle of resort life and the fresh air is wonderful! Different walking paths cater for different fitness levels and ages of participants so do speak to the guide beforehand to make sure he understands your requirements. The ESF run regular trips and more information can be found here:
