Description

Saint Martin de Belleville is a pretty alpine town located between Meribel Mottaret and Les Menuires in the heart of The Three Valleys, the world’s largest ski area. Visiting the other Three Valley resorts couldn’t be easier, simply take the gondola out of the village then switch to the chairlift to reach the Tougnete peak. From here, Meribel, La Tania, Courchevel are on the left, and Les Menuires and Val Thorens are to the right.  

St Martin is a relatively quiet town so is the perfect resort for families, however there are also a few lively bars for groups looking for a bit more atmosphere. St Martin offerers a good selection of accommodation options available including many independently run properties of superb quality.



Getting There

St Martin sits in the heart of the Three Valleys and is relatively easy to get to. Chambery Airport is 2 hours drive away, and Geneva, Lyon and Grenoble are 3-3.5 hours’ drive.

As an alternative of flying, you can take the train out to resort. The Eurostar runs from London to moutier via Paris, Moutier is approximately 40 minutes drive from the resort.

There is also the option of driving out to resort. Ther Eurotunnel runs every half hour from Folkestone or there is also a ferry service from Dover to Calais. Please note there are several tolls when on the motorways through France  to resort which will cost approximately €70 each way, but this will depend on your vehicle and which route you choose to take.


When to Go

St Martin de Belleville sits in the heart of the Three Valleys offering access to the expansive area with runs suitable for all abilities. St Martin is relatively quiet compared to its neighbouring resorts so is a popular choice with families and therefore does get busier during school holidays with the prices of travel and accommodation at a higher rate.

The resort is sits at a high altitude and links easily to the neighbouring three valley resorts meaning that there are good snow conditions all season long.


Where to Stay

St Martin is relatively compact with a selection of apartments, chalets and hotels. It’s compact size means you will never be staying too far from the slopes.



Getting around

St Martin is relatively small so everything is accessible on foot. If you wanted to visit the other resorts in the Three Valleys then you can either ski over or drive/take a taxi. There are no direct bus services connecting the resorts, if you want to travel by bus then you would have to go via Moutier


Apres

St Martin has a couple of bars with live music and a friendly apres ski atmosphere. Ones to mention include Le Dahlia, Bar le Joker, L’Eterlou and The Pourquoi Pas.

St Martin is better suited for families and groups after a quieter atmosphere. That said, the resort neighbours Val Thorens, Meribel and Courchevel so guests can visit them if they are looking for a more of a party.


Eating out

There is a good selection of restaurants in St Martin suitable for all tastes and budgets from the cheap and cheerful to Michelin-starred dining. Our recommended restaurants include La Bouitte, Le Montagnard, L’Etoile des Neiges, Le Corbeleys, La Ferme de la Choumette, La Trantsa and O P’tit Snack



Activities

St Martin is relatively small but there is a good range of activities for any non skiers in the group. There are walking trails, a museum, sports centre and spa; and for the more adventurous you can try parapenting, snow-shoeing and dog-sledding.



Ski School

Despite it being a relatively small resort, there are a few very good ski schools in St Martin. The schools offer a range of activities for all ages and abilities included both group and private lessons. Group lessons will work out cheaper but are less intense than one to one tuition. If you are unsure on which class will be most suitable then the instructors will be happy to chat through your requirements for you.

Due to its popularity with families means that it does get busy during school holidays with the prices on accommodation and travel at a higher rate.

St Martin sits in the heart of The Three Valleys offering quick and easy access to the whole ski domain so it is a great choice for groups with mix abilities as there is something for everyone to enjoy.


Childcare

For families looking for childcare in resort, they can book ESF’s Piou-Pou Club which welcomes children from 30 months to 5 years. Older children can book into ski school, or families would need to book a private nanny if they wanted more flexible childcare.


The Piste

St Martin itself doesn’t have a huge variety of piste to choose from but its connection to the rest of the Three Valleys ski area offers something for everyone.

There are few beginner slopes around St Martin however there are some lovely blue runs within easy reach. For intermediates and advanced skiers and boarders, Meribels 2 snow peaks and Val Thorens soaring slopes are all within easy reach.

Equipment Hire

There are a few ski hire shops in resort which offer guests a good range of ski and snowboard equipment. We would recommend that you book your hire in advance as many stores will offer online discounts.

Lift Passes

When visiting St Martin, you can either purchase a local area pass or a full Three Valley pass. The full area pass offers access to the wider area but it is of course more expensive.

Lift passes are free for children under 5 years and adults over 75 years, proof of age is required.

You can buy your lift pass from the tourist office in resort or alternatively you can pre book it through your tour operator who will deliver it to your accommodation for when you arrive in resort.
