If you don’t have the time off to travel for a week or perhaps you want to fit in an extra ski break on top of your weeks ski holiday then a ski weekend can be a great option for maximising your time on the slopes without losing valuable office hours, and it’s perfectly possible to enjoy 3 days of skiing for just one day of holiday from work.

Although the majority of chalet operators run a seven night break, more and more operators are now offering a short break. The options are many and varied - you can pick up a great value holiday much more easily than you might imagine, hotels are usually the first port of call, but short breaks in chalets can be easily arranged as well.

Weekend breaks often work well Sunday-to-Thursday (or indeed Thursday to Sunday). The one thing we would suggest is that if you are booking a catered chalet for a short break then it is best to avoid travelling Friday to Monday and crossing a weekend. This is because the main changeover days for chalets are Saturday or Sunday so if operators are planning on running a short break over certain weeks of the season, they will want to keep it within the weekend.

With booking a short break, we would always recommend enquiring about accommodation before booking your flights to make sure that there is something available for you when you want to go. For certain weeks, especially low season and if it is relatively last minute, chalets can be flexible with offering short breaks so if you can’t see anything online that looks suitable then make sure you give us a call as we will be able to speak to the chalet operators and see what is available. It is always best to check so you don’t end up with flights booked and nowhere to stay!

If you are heading out to the mountains for a short time, you will be better off heading to a resort which has a shorter transfer time so that you can keep travel time to a minimum and make the most of your time away.

Our top resorts for a short break are Morzine, Chamonix and St Anton as they all have short transfer times as well as a good selection of accommodation options for a weekend break.
